The natural setting of Ulten offers countless opportunities for fun in the snow – an outdoor gym surrounded by nature!

Skiing & snowboarding

Arosea Life Balance Hotel is just 400 metres away from the valley station of Schwemmalm ski resort. A new gondola lift, opened in 2009, takes you up to the fun on the slopes during your winter in the Alps in Ulten. It will take you to the ski lifts where 25 km of perfectly groomed pistes of varying difficulties await, including one of the longest ski slopes in South Tyrol. Five km long and covering a difference in altitude of 1,100 metres, the Asmol slope –which runs from the Mutegg mountain station to the valley station – is a real challenge for skiers, snowboarders and carvers.

But skiing is not all that you can do. The Schwemmalm is also fantastic for snowboarding, cross-country skiing, tobogganing, ice skating, ski tours or snowshoe hiking surrounded by the beautiful natural scenery and amazing views of the snow-covered mountains of Ulten. There’s lots for little ones to enjoy too. The Schwemmy Park, situated at the bottom of the valley station,is perfect for small ski newbies to have fun on the children-friendly slopes. There are also easy slopes close to the Hotel Arosea for beginners.

Cross-country skiing

Cross-country skiing fans in Ulten will find excellent, groomed trails, breath-taking scenery and pristine nature during their winter in the Alps. And the best of it is – you can start your day of cross-country skiing right in front of the hotel and discover the magnificent Val d’Ultimo as well as getting exercise and wellness at the same time. Gently glide through the snow-covered landscape, feel the pleasant winter sun on your body and regain energy. Experience moments of spiritual relaxation and the pleasant challenge of physical activity with friends or the whole family.

The cross-country trail in Val d’Ultimo-Ulten leads from Lake Zoccolo-Zoggler Stausee directly along the valley floor near the Arosea Life Balance Hotel, past the village of St. Nicolò-St. Nikolaus up to S. Gertrude-St. Gertraud. Experience 25 km of cross-country enjoyment through snow-covered meadows and woodland next to the frozen Falschauer-Valsura river and past old farms.

Snowshoe hiking

Hike with muted steps through the snow and experience the idyll of winter far from crowded slopes. Those who have already tried the pleasant, lightweight snowshoes appreciate their advantages.

Winter in the Alps in Ulten means peaceful snowshoe hiking at its best: you can hike through fresh snow and reach the high mountain peaks you could not have otherwise explored. Those who make it to the top will be rewarded by a magnificent view. Thanks to the snowshoes, you can also reach the Stelvio Nature Park and relish the quiet and peaceful atmosphere.

Tour description:
Starting point is the fork to the Jochmeier farms above Santa Gertrude-St. Gertraud. These are reached on the road from San Gertrude- St. Gertraud to Fontana Bianca- Weißbrunn, shortly after the 4th turn. On the cycling path to Jochmeier and then left through the forest. On the summer path (Sommerweg) to Tufer hut (2,009 m). Through the valley basin into the valley. At the end of the valley turn north and climb up to the peak.

Seespitz - No. 90 – medium difficulty

Starting point: Turn off into the Einer Valley, S. Nicolò-St. Nikolaus

Best season: deep winter, spring

Tour description:
Starting point is the Jaisten hamlet. From S. Valburga-St. Walburg in the direction of San Nicolò-St. Nikolaus; approx. 1.5 km after the Kuppelwies guest house take the road to the left of the bus stop (no entry for cars/private path). From the road walk to the Falschauer-Valsura river across the wooden bridge and then up to the Jaisten farms. On a forest path to the Einer Valley and on to the Einer hut (1,720 m). A little later you leave the valley to the left and hike up to the Brizner hut (1,932 m). From the Brizner hut you hike up to the western wall of Seespitze- Cima Lavazzè in a southerly direction. The western wall can be reached at a height of 2,300 metres. Rather easy hike to the highest point. You reach the somewhat higher southern peak.

Gioveretto - No. 102 – difficult

Starting point: Fontana Bianca Lake- Weißbrunnsee 1,860m

Best season: late spring

Tour description:
Starting point is Fontana Bianca Lake- Weißbrunnsee. As in the summer a gentle ascent through the valley and then via a steep step to Lago Verde Lake- Grünsee. Here along the northern shore to the end of the lake. Turn right in a northerly direction to the east of the peak (3,320 m); from 2,900 metres in altitude rather steep. You cross the ridge in the direction of the Martello Valley-Martelltal and climb the northern wall in order to reach the eastern ridge. Ski depot (approx. 3,360 m). Short climb to the peak.
